a four-fold franciscan blessing

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and turn their pain to joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Amen.

  1. Anne. Oh my word. I stumble upon your blog maybe every 3 or 4 months. But what you just posted was one of those “wow” moments that only can come from God. :) My mom told me she talked to you on chat the other day about urban missions and stuff like that….let’s just say on a moment-by-moment basis I’m struggling with what God wants me to do with my life. And especially with missions, how COMFORTABLE that life will be. That Franciscan blessing is *exactly* what I needed to hear. Thank you….
by the way, I totally miss you.

    1. Kayla,
Keep searching & asking. Ask God to align your passions and your gifts & He will lead. I also encourage you, if you aren’t already, to start investing where you are.

As far as the comfortable stuff goes, know this: every place has its own problems, and the inner city is no different. If you have a compassionate heart and willingness to serve…. you won’t even be thinking about comfort. Love you & im excited to see how God uses you!
